Movie Review: Thor (Spoiler Free!)
"Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of THOR!" -Odin (Thor's father)
I found Thor to be a very enjoyable movie! I'd probably go so far as to say it is now one of my favorites. I'm new to movie reviewing, and probably a bit biased because I like it so much, but I'll do my best and begin with a plot summary from MovieFone.
"Exiled to Earth after his arrogance fans the flames of an ancient conflict, The Mighty Thor of Asgard discovers the meaning of humility when a powerful old foe dispatches a destructive force to crush humanity. Only when the banished prince has defeated an opponent capable of crushing him in battle will he learn what it takes to be a true leader."
What I liked-
Characters-
I thought the characters were very well developed in this movie. In the beginning, I didn't like Thor. He was prideful, somewhat rude, and rebellious. By the end of the movie he had changed greatly. He was humble, respectful, and selfless. He wasn't perfect, but he had learned much. I really like a character arc like that in a movie, especially when disobedience and rebellion seem often to be glorified in films, or at the very least not even punished.
I enjoyed Loki's arc as well, and felt bad for him by the end of the film.
Jane Foster was probably my favorite character after Thor. Her determination and dedication to her job, even when ridiculed, was really great. I found her to be a strong female character without being annoying.
Darcy was really funny, I thought she was a really great character that added some humor to the film.
Overall, I'd say that all the characters were very well done and believable.
Effects and Acting-
The special effects were not only beautiful and stunning, but also felt real, not forced. I especially loved the Bifröst and the kingdom of Asgard.
The acting was excellent. I honestly can't think of much more to say on it.
Score-
I cannot stress how much I love the score for this movie. It's compelling and powerful, perfectly complementing the movie.
Story-
I really liked the plot of the movie. It was brilliant! I didn't have trouble following it, and I think it was paced well. The humor was great, and the action scenes were really cool. The violence was not overdone, and I was surprised by the plot twists.
What I didn't like-
Language-
I don't like cussing at all. I know it could have been a lot worse, so I'm just thankful that it wasn't. The language was not even the cause of the movie's PG-13 rating.
Alcohol-
I didn't like the one bar scene, but at least it's not possible for Thor to get drunk.
Overall-
Overall I thought it was a really great movie. I rate it 4.5 out of 5 stars. Agree with my rating? Have you seen the movie? Was I fair in my review? Any tips on how I can improve? Comment and tell me what you think!

Hi, I found your blog through A Dreamer's Galaxy. :)
ReplyDeleteI really love this movie; it's a great film---I'm a Loki Fangirl; but I like Thor too. I also like Jane. Lots of people actually don't like her, if you can believe it. Darcy is also hilarious.
Good review; I think you were pretty fair!
